The Hy-Vee Triathlon is included in Triathlete magazine’s “Five Most Family-Friendly Races” in the country.
The list was compiled for the March issue, editors said, because “sometimes you want your family to see you race. Sometimes your family wants to see you race.
“Whatever the circumstances, being a tri spectator isn’t as easy as watching” other sports. “So you owe it to your support crew to choose races that allow sidekicks to have a little fun.”
Voted the most family-friendly race is the Revolution3 Quassy, June 5-6 in Middlebury, Conn. Triathlete editors said the 2-year-old event “redefined the meaning of ‘spectator-friendly,’” because it is staged at an amusement park.
“While you suffer on one of the toughest half-iron courses in the Northeast, your loved ones get to enjoy some of the best coasters in the region,” the magazine said.
The Hy-Vee Triathlon promises to make a run at No. 1 this year when it plays host to the company’s 80th anniversary party and brings in thousands of employees for two days of free food and fun featuring a lineup of inflatable activities and a Game Truck, billed as “the ultimate video game party.”
Ironman and other Marvel comics character will entertain at the venue, which will be ringed with blow-up super slides, bounce houses and obstacle courses. The game truck allows video-athletes to square off 16 at a time in their choice of games.
