Hy-Vee Triathlon Weekend

This past weekend Hy-Vee was proud to host three races at the Hy-Vee Triathlon. The Kids Tri along with the Age Group and Elite races took a great deal of planning and monumental effort. But, with the help of over 2,500 volunteers and organizers, you did it! Many of you worked long days over a two-week period prior to the event in hot, humid, rainy and muddy weather.

You were able to move mountains and earth, but not the heavens. The elements forced us to cancel the Kids Tri and abbreviate the Age Group race. Roads were flooded, winds wreaked havoc and the park was turned into a quagmire. But you persevered. In spite of all the difficulties, it was still as fine an event as could be imagined. I heard literally hundreds of comments from pro and amateur athletes, sponsors, parents and spectators who were amazed at how well organized and friendly you were even with the adversity and disappointments. There were definitely a lot of “helpful smiles” at the Hy-Vee Triathlon!

Your work gave all involved a wonderful experience, but more importantly, you helped us inspire more people to put further focus on health and exercise. All of us in the Hy-Vee family want to thank you for your hard work and support of the 2010 Hy-Vee Triathlon.

With Heartfelt Gratitude,
Ric Jurgens
