Australia’s Emma Snowsill dominated the field on the running portion of the race and sailed to her second victory in three years at Sunday’s Hy-Vee Triathlon Elite Cup for women.
Snowsill, 28, outdistanced her countrywoman Emma Moffatt to win in 1 hour, 59 minutes and 35 seconds, even though she was behind several athletes, including American Sara McLarty, after the transition from bike to run.
“I was angry about my position, so I used that aggression,” she said. “I wanted to reel in as many girls as I could.”
Snowsill won the top prize of $200,000 and edged Moffat, last year’s Hy-Vee champ, by less than 20 seconds.
