I am Gabriela Martinez, a 35 year old from Kissimmee, Florida. I was born and raised Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico. I am a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army. I am currently stationed full time in Orlando with the 377th Military Intelligence Battalion (Army Reserve) serving as the Battalion Maintenance Technician. You will know I am on the course because I am loud, with a bright black & gold Army Tri Club tri-suit, and I am fast.
I have been participating in triathlons since 2006. : I got involved into the wonderful endurance lifestyle of triathlon at the YMCA Burlington, Iowa. While stationed in Middletown, IA with the 389th Engineer Battalion I used the YMCA as my PT running training center after coming back from Iraq in 2004. I will enjoy coming back to Midwest to watch my daughter compete at the IK championships and show of myself some Army Tri on Sunday.
I am a runner by trade and would have to definitely say that’s my best event. I enjoy the afternoon running when I am on my own. If I do the morning it has to be with a group because I hate running sleepy! As for Hy-Vee predictions, I don’t believe in predictions because weather or the course can change the game. I just listen to Disturbed at transition and decide to have fun at it until the gun goes off and its game on!
