Joe is from Bonita Springs, FL and works for hospice. He enjoys his job but it is hard when he loses someone that he is close to. In his free time he enjoys weight lifting and grilling out. Joe started out running half marathons and moved to duathlons shortly after. Once he got his swim down he was hooked on triathlons.
One of his biggest athletic accomplishments was winning his high school swimming championship. He is now planning on running an Ironman in 2014. While competing in an event in Miami, Joe broke his toe coming out of the swim, and in the New Orleans 5150 race this year he crashed his bike going 22 mph down a hill. Miraculously he was able to push through and finish both races. His hope for Hy-Vee is to finish top 10 in his age group, and hopefully make it without injury.
