I am Judith Myers, a 65 year old from Clive, Iowa where I have lived the last 10 years with my husband Bob. I am a faculty member in the Nursing Department at Grand View College. During my free time I enjoy cycling with family and friends.
This will be my 3rd time doing the Hy-Vee Triathlon as family team. My husband, Bob does the swim; my daughter-in-law, Lisa Myers is the runner; and I am the biker for our team. Our son, Larry (Lisa’s husband), competes as an individual athlete. Larry and Lisa drive from their home in Chicago to be part of this family event. I joined triathlons as personal challenge to achieve an athletic goal as well as to do something as a family.
My only event is the cycling portion of the Hy-Vee Triathlon. I don’t have a particular meal before the event. I eat sensibly and make sure to be well-hydrated before race day. The first year I participated with my family, I wore the tri-tats for several days after the event. I wanted my students to see them and recognize that if I could achieve something like that at my age, they could achieve their goals too. My hope for the Tri this year is that our family has a good time and gets another family picture with our participation/finish medallions.
