I am Lane McMullen, a 35 year old from North Liberty, Iowa. After graduating from college, I needed a challenge and became inspired after watching my wife run the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. and wanted to give it a try. I lost about 60 pounds and finished my first Marine Corps Marathon in 2010. I have been back every year since to run it again. I was biking to cross train for my running events, and thought I would put the two together. I like to swim and feel comfortable in the water so I signed up for my first triathlon in 2011. I got the bug and can’t give it up!
I wasn’t involved in athletics in high school or college. In fact, I don’t have an athletic bone in my body, but am disciplined and don’t make a lot of excuses for not putting my time in training.
My best events are the swim and bike portion of a triathlon. My most memorable finish was finishing in front of the state capitol for the Hy-Vee Triathlon in 2011, in front of a great crowd, and running on the blue carpet. After I crossed the finish line I saw my Mom who was so proud of me she was tearing up. Special moment there, I will never forget that one.
