Mark is from Imperial, Nebraska and has a Bachelor’s degree in SW Asian History from the American Military University. He is also involved in US Army reserves as a 2nd career and his unit is located out of Des Moines. He first got involved in triathlons because he loved the training, and has continued participating because he loves how good it makes him feel physically. He also coaches high school basketball and junior high track in his free time.
Mark’s most memorable triathlon experience was at Boulder’s 70.3 last year. He did the race for his older brother and dear friend that both were fighting cancer. Mark and his son he raced together on the “Livestrong” Cancer team. His brother passed away 3 months later and is now a part of every race he does.
Mark enjoys training during the sunrise, but not so much late at night. Before each race he eats yogurt and toast with peanut- butter.
