Paul Cise has shed 125 lbs. since graduating college in 2009, has become an avid triathlete, and is now the lucky guy that gets to change Courtney’s last name.
At 325 lbs. the new Iowa State Mechanical Engineering grad knew he had to make a change. He was at a bar one night and his friend bet him he couldn’t run a marathon. Two years later and 125 lbs. lighter he ran the Chicago Marathon.
He was able to steal a kiss from his fiancé right before he crossed the finish line and qualified for the 2014 Boston Marathon this spring. It was one week after Boston this year and made for an extremely emotional finish.
Lots and lots and lots of coffee help him get going on race mornings. A bagel with peanut butter and banana also help to get him to the start line.
His favorite time to train is over lunch. He is able to get a five mile run in every work day and loves the break half way through the day. That or his early morning pool swims. Or riding 17 miles to and from work. Or runs by moonlight. Or long bike rides he tends to get lost on.
He loves finishing the Hy-Vee race and grabbing some drinks and food after. He hopes to be upright when he crosses the finish line and smiling, and predicts he will eat too many ice cream sandwiches after it’s all said and done.
