After swearing off their bad habits, Rebecca and her husband decided to start working out and eating better. She ran her first triathlon and knew she didn’t need those vices in her life any more.
Rebecca Koeneke is 42 from Iowa City, Iowa. She attended college at Vennard Bible College in Oskaloosa and moved to the Kansas City Metro in 1992 where she lives with her husband and two children.
It was in 2008 that Rebecca decided enough was enough. Her and her husband were overweight and needed to make a change in their lifestyle. They quit smoking, started eating healthier and a year later she ran her first sprint triathlon. After that she was hooked and hasn’t stopped competing!
Having her kids watch her cross the finish line made the Olathe Medical Women’s triathlon her most memorable. It was the first and only time her kids have seen her so far, Hy-Vee will be the second time.
She was very happy when her kids started asking about races and wanting to start doing them as well. Her husband has been very supportive and has competed in triathlons and other events himself. She can’t wait until the day her daughter crosses her first triathlon finish line.
Waking up and getting her day started with a workout is crucial. She works out six days a week, and even on her off day she gets going early by cleaning the house.
In her 5th year of triathlon competition, Rebecca is excited to compete in her first Olympic distance and hopes to have a strong finish at the Hy-Vee Triathlon!
